About

J. R. Lopez

Jermaine R. Lopez — known professionally as J.R. — is an investor, designer, technologist and humanist working between Vancouver and Dubai.

J.R. has spent his career at the intersection of story, design and technology. He founded Evolve, a Vancouver branding, marketing and film agency, and continues to lead its creative direction. The studio's work spans luxury hospitality, enterprise technology and national consumer brands, including Paradox Hotels, Microsoft HoloLens, MOTT 32, Tasty Indian Bistro and A&W.

He is the founder of Evolve X World Technologies Inc., where design thinking meets applied technology — a studio for building products and ventures that treat engineering as a creative discipline. His fascination with engineering and space exploration runs through everything the company takes on: systems built with the same rigour and ambition as the machines that leave the launch pad.

In Dubai, J.R. is a partner at Stack Food Technologies, a food technology company rebuilding how modern kitchens and hospitality groups operate. The mission is bigger than any single kitchen: Stack is part of Dubai's Food Tech Valley initiative, working toward the UAE's food security goals — building the infrastructure, automation and supply systems that let a region feed itself sustainably, at scale, for generations. It is technology in direct service of one of humanity's most basic needs.

His creative life began on camera. He appears in X2: X-Men United, Kyle XY, Home, Black America and Flowers & Bees, and has produced independent work of his own. Modelling and acting taught him how light, framing and presence move an audience — lessons that still shape how he builds brands. Photography remains a daily practice: the study of light, colour psychology and typography is, for him, the study of how human beings actually perceive and feel.

That obsession with perception extends into psychology and mass psychology — how brands influence humanity, why crowds move, and what makes an idea stick. It is why he studies religions, strategy and power with the same seriousness he brings to a design system: Sun Tzu, Machiavelli and Robert Greene sit on the shelf beside the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, Asimov's Foundation, and biographies of Spielberg, Musk, Branson, Jobs, Malcolm X and Tyson — builders, fighters and storytellers who bent the world around an idea.

Boxing keeps him honest. The gym is where discipline, humility and timing stop being abstractions — the same qualities he expects of every venture he backs. Away from work he is a collector of gadgets and a student of industrial design and fashion manufacturing, fascinated by how objects are made, from a quarter-zip's factory tech pack to a spacecraft's gantry.

Above all, the through-line is people: technology and design in service of human outcomes, and businesses built to leave communities better than they found them.
